I am already on Medicare and did not need this book. I purchased it out
of curiosity to see if it took the mystery and fear out of finding a
good policy. I was pleasantly surprised to find how well it is written
in simple terms and easy to understand.
Typically if you want to find out this information you have to submit
your personal/contact information to a insurance company (or agent) and
wait for them to call and put the pressure on you to purchase what they
offer. This simple book eliminate that hassle completely. While the
author offers to assist you, it is your choice to make the contact.
I recommend this book to anyone approaching Medicare age and if you are
already on Medicare and want to change your policy this will be an
excellent guide to do so.

I'm only a few months away from turning 65, and even though I plan on working for several more years before retiring I wanted to begin researching Medicare and Medicare Supplement Plans. Medicare for the Lazy Man 2019 was a great tool towards that end. Mr. Jones not only explains how the two systems work, but he does it in a manner that is concise, understandable and fun to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone researching the topic of Medicare and Medicare Supplement Plans.

I loved this little book, written with such clarity and even a sense of humor. Obviously the author has a great grasp on the entire Medicare system, and all of the flaws. Really gets quickly to what we need to know. I feel so much more informed now, and no longer dreading this. The book is a quick read - under an hour! So glad I purchased this.
I had gone to an info seminar, and the speaker was not nearly as versed as this, and people left frustrated, but someone in the class had this little book, and recommended it. I took a photo of it so I could find it on Amazon. I immediately came home and ordered it - it arrived quickly, and I'm so glad I have it!

The book can be read in one sitting and is easy to comprehend. However, the author makes no bones about that he believes in only two plans- the Plan F and HDP F. He doesn't point out that Plan F won't be available to new Medicare applicants after January 1, 2020. Therefore, he offers no opinion on plans for those who won't be able to purchase these plans. This information should have been included. I liked the information overall though. The step by step process for signing up for Medigap and Plan D for drug coverage was helpful. Numerous web addresses are included which is nice.

What a GREAT book!! 49 pages with examples of plans and dollar estimates in an easy to read booklet that anyone can understand. Takes about an hour to read and makes Medicare simple! I would HIGHLY RECCOMMEND this booklet to anyone now on Medicare,(as I am), or about to enter the program. It will save you time, frustration, and possibly a lot of money.
⭐⭐⭐
I appreciate that the book was meant to be a short and simple coverage of Medicare. On that count, the author was spot on. Even the material itself, was helpful and provided a nice overview of the topic. However, the book's content and quality doesn't live up to most of the other books I have purchased on Amazon at the $.99 price point. Therefore, it is a good, albeit significantly overpriced, summary of Medicare.

My insurance guy told me not to bother buying/reading any books about Medicare because they were all stupid. I couldn't resist buying this one because it looked like it might be funny. Well, it also has a serious side and I learned about plan HDF. , which is perfect for me. Would my insurance guy have told me about that plan if I hadn't asked him? I'll never know, but he sure was wrong about this book!

This short book is written well and is most helpful for someone approaching retirement, or dissatisfied with their current Medicare insurance. I only wish the author had a more positive appreciation for Medicare Advantage plans, they can be very cost effective for healthy people. That said, the book offers excellent advice for those not familiar with the benefits of Supplemental Medicare Insurance, along with insightful explanations of the Do’s and Don’ts of each plan. The book also offers guidelines for obtaining the right supplement plan for you. A must-read for the uninformed nearing Medicare or for the disenchanted.

My wife and I searched every publication we could find trying to figure out what was best for us relative to Medicare Insurance supplements and just became more uncertain until finding Medicare For The Lazy Man.
It truly is simple and easy to understand and enabled to us to be comfortable with executing our decisions the very next day.
Being straightforward and brutally honest also helped us understand why so many of the prior publications were largely self serving. A must read for anyone approaching retirement.

Wow. I sure wish I had this book a few years ago as it would have saved me many hours of hassle and also all the hair I pulled out trying to deal with the mysteries of Medicare and the supplement plans. Obviously the author is not a government employee as he is able to condense everything one needs to know with a mere easy-to-read and comprehend 49 pages. Excellent job. I would recommend buying copies for friends and family who are inching up to the age of 65 years. It will make a world of difference for them. Well worth the price and short amount of time it takes to learn everything one needs to know.
Doug - back in the office after a few days absence and found your book "Medicare for the Lazy Man" on my desk. Read it through - excellent; economy of words, yet humorous enough to make a numbing subject interesting. I (and my wife) already conform to your advice on the supplemental coverage, HD-F. However, the instructions you give on Part D coverage is a matter of first impression and I intend on having your book on my lap when I go online to straighten out what has gnawed at me for several years now.
Doug, thanx for all your help!!
For any of my friends approaching Medicare age...I went to an info workshop, which was very disappointing, but a guy attending had this little book and said it was more helpful than the class we had just attended. I found it on Amazon. I read it in under an hour, and now I have clarity! Glad I bought it.

I really hate reading all the garbage you get from the government on Medicare. By the time I read up to the end I forgot what I learned on the way to the last page. This book is short and easy to read even for me who never read a book completely till he was 50 years old. The High Deductible Plan F works great for me. My main goal was to protect myself from major health cost, and this does still take care of that at a lower monthly cost. I highly recommend this read to all that are trying to figure out Medicare options.
Thanks for writing a great, easy to understand book and setting up this awesome site. I am not an average "good health" case and I would like some advice. I am a retired teacher who turns 65 3/2/55. Would like to include dental, hearing aides stuff, and gym membership-but choice of Dr.s, good coverage, and coverage while traveling trumps all. So far I only have 1 prescription but that could change big time. I live in Cohocton, NY 14826. Any of your typical clear, common sense advice that made your book so great would be greatly appreciated.

As someone navigating older parents who fall into the demographic the author describes, I picked this book up to be able to converse and advise with them about their decisions.
I ended up just forwarding the book to them directly. It's simply written about a confusing subject. Mr. Jones has been very helpful in cutting through the mysteries.
Understanding the options (esp the HDF) is just priceless.
Not only is this a "would recommend", it's a "will recommend."
I am a "semi-retired" Property and Casualty insurance agent with 47 years in the insurance field. PLEASE FOLKS..pick up this QUICK and VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE READ on a difficult and confusing health topic. Thank you, Mr. Douglas B . Jones for clearing up an important picture with a short book that has large print and includes some nice comic relief. This is truly a simple and easy guide to Medicare. BUY the book, READ the book, and be sure to talk with Mr. Jones about your Medicare Supplement needs.
I have purchased and read your "Medicare For The Lazy Man 2019" book and am considering purchasing the HDF High Deductible Plan F. Should I select this plan, will I be penalized or rated unfavorably in later years if I decide to change my coverage to the more comprehensive Plan F?
Enjoyed your book and will tell others about it.
Thank you.
Thanks for the advice. Your book has been very helpful in breaking down and explaining the Medicare system. It's also a very easy, quick read which then allows for going back and finding sections that need more clarification easily.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Massachusetts has their own tweaks to the Medicare insurance supplements.

This book is very concise and accurate. The author eliminates all the noise an confusion about Medicare. After reading, I felt very confident that I could make a well-informed decision. I asked for some clarification and the author responded very quickly. I highly recommend this book.

Nowhere near as taxing on the brain as most of the Medicare-related literature I've glimpsed at. At the minimum, this short guide easily will make most readers much more informed and questioning of the claims made in most marketing materials for Medicare products. Buyer beware..as usual.
⭐
Total waste of money. Not much bigger than a pamphlet. The author wants you to buy insurance through him. Not much up front information. it mostly just gives government websites to log on to and read from. I don't have to pay over $11.00 to read from a government website. I needed something I could carry with me and refer back to instantly. It actually has the nerve to use an entire page to say: "Public service agencies, like a local hospital, for instance, may have a Medicare and Social Security advisor on staff." and "your company HR department." NO KIDDING!!! I work 16 and 18 hour days driving truck, I needed something I can pick up while waiting to unload. I can't use my phone or go to the hospital. A monkey could have written a more helpful book. Amazon, take more time to review your products before taking my money.

As I get closer to the age when I have to decide on Medicare options, this book served as a great place to start. I also take comfort in the fact that, if I run across something I don't understand, I feel as though I can reach out to the author. I have even started listening to the podcasts - yep, I see I have some catching up to do! Thank you for making things easier to understand about Medicare, and setting me on the right course, as I now realize I should avoid Advantage Plans!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have to admit, when I first opened this book and started reading, I felt a bit disappointed and almost sent it back for a refund, but after boring myself to death reading a couple other books on the topic, I decided to give this a fair shot and am I glad I did. The author points out very clearly his recommendations do not apply to those who are unhealthy or barely making it and even suggests asking for a refund.
Now, right to the point, the recommendations are simply brilliant. Keep in mind what insurance is meant for, protection against disasters, and don’t forget that. You want the best coverage for when you need it most and the recommendations given are simply the best options available for those not in bad health or on welfare. The author breaks it down so simply and the numbers make sense 100%.
I’m glad I found this book because I have a Guarantee Issue event and I’m getting rid of the so called advantage plan and going with the recommendations made in this book. They are the only ones that make sense. Shame on the agents who push Medicare advantage and don’t even mention these ultimate plans.

Book was very helpful and written in easy to understand examples. This book was a huge benefit to me as I decided what info and concerns I needed to consider as I was making the choices when filing for Medicare for the first time. It was an easy and fast read and was, without a doubt, certainly time well spent. Overall I was very pleased I ordered this book.

The book describes all Medicare Advantage plans as overpriced and sold through high broker sales commissions. On the plus side, MA plans are very simple and easy to understand and have low copays on drugs. You can get a much more cost-effective Medicare Plan by mixing in a supplemental plan with Medicare Part D but that takes more knowledge and effort to set up. I found the advice valuable, well-explained, and inexpensive.
